Is Driving Instructing
for me?

Before committing to becoming an instructor.

You really need to understand whether the job is actually for you!

Make yourself a list working out all the pros and cons.

WHAT ARE THE PROS

I'll be working for myself
I'll be able to make a better work life balance
I can choose my hours
I won't have a miserable boss
I can have weekends off
I can set my own hourly rate
I won't need to get up so early
People will appreciate what I do
I will get job satisfaction
My locations to work will be flexible
Each day will be different to an extent
I will learn new skills
Being with people who want to be there
I want to make a difference to road safety
I want to be happy with what i'm doing
I want my success to be my success and know I earned it.
People will appreciate what I do
I'll be respected
My success will be my profit and not another holiday for my boss
I won't be treated like a nobody

WHAT ARE THE CONS

Getting customers
Meeting the demands for my bills
No guaranteed income
I'll be working alone possibly so no back up
I won't get holiday pay
I won't get sick pay
Start up costs
Might not make any real money in the first couple of years
Will need to adjust to working alone
No employee benefits
Might have to work longer or unsociable hours
Might be harder to qualify for loans or a mortgage
How long the training and qualifying process might be
No guarantees I'll qualify
How do I advertise myself
Doing my own accounts
Working out Tax, & National insurance
Lots more paperwork
Meeting the demands of my clients
Ensuring my timekeeping is good
Being relied on
Car repair costs
What If my car breaks down, I'll be earning nothing
Taking care of everything to do with running a business myself
Not having readily available funds to set up the business or for a rainy day
What if the business fails

The lists above are not exhaustive

The list above is really just the tip of the Iceberg for questions you should be considering asking yourself before committing to going self employed.

Do the Pros outweigh the Cons?

Maybe they don't need to.
Maybe you are so fed up with what you are doing and your mental health is suffering that taking the plunge is a far better option.

Only you can make the choice of what you do. But always consider the consequences.

If possible, consider training while you are still in employment. This may take a little longer, but you will have the security of an income while you are training.
THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOU WILL QUALIFY!
And if you pack in your current job and don't qualify what next?
