Octane levels in fuel.

Octane rating is a measure of how much pressure a fuel can withstand before spontaneously combusting.
The higher octane fuels are used in vehicles that have a higher compression engine to give better efficiency and performance.

What should i do if i put incorrect fuel into my car?

Firstly, DON'T PANIC.
Secondly, DO NOT START THE CAR!!!!!

1. Remove the keys from the ignition.
2. Let the petrol station staff know.
3. Put the car in neutral.
4. Push the car to a safe place, petrol station staff will advise you where.
5. Petrol station staff will probably have a number of a company that you could use to remove the fuel and flush you system.
6. Refill with the correct fuel.
7 Your insurance company might cover you for this but you would have to check.

BY STARTING THE CAR YOU MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR A NEW ENGINE!!!!
Don't risk it.
It is easier to have your tank drained than it is to have to have a new engine fitted.

The days of a petrol attendant filling your car for you are well and truly gone.

Generally petrol stations work the same way, just the pumps at them can differ slightly.
You'll pull up to a pump.
Check on your dashboard to notice what side of the car your fuel filler cap is.
Next to the petrol icon on your dashboard will be a triangle pointing to the side where the filler cap is.
Select the type of fuel you intend to use.
Some fuel stations require you to select whether you want to pay at the pump or at the kiosk. Others may be pay at the pump only.
Take the hose from the pump and place it fully into the fuel filler area and then ensure that the previous reading has cleared from the screen on the pump before attempting to fuel up.
Once the pump has zeroed then pull on the pump level and begin filling.
You can choose to stop when you want or you can keep the level pulled until the fuel tank is full.
The pump should automatically stop when the tank is full.
Replace your filler cap if you have one.
Ensure you LOCK YOU CAR.
Take a note of the fuel pump you are at usually a number at the top of the pump and then let the staff know what pump you intend paying for.
