REPORT AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS

If you do experience Road Rage.
Try not to retaliate!
Lock your car it offers you some protection and if necessary phone the police.
Getting out of the car and becoming confrontational could
only exacerbate the situation.

PLAN AHEAD

By planning ahead not only for the immediate situation but also for your journey from the start you can avoid you becoming a victim of a road rage situation.
Knowing your route and planning for what is happening ahead of you and anticipating other road users intentions can make for a much smoother relaxing journey.

STAY CALM

Staying calm in stressful situations will help to diffuse any unnecessary situations arising in the first place.
Getting stressed out because of another road users actions will only add fuel to the fire.
We are all human and are all capable of making mistakes.
Honking a horn, offering hand gestures, shouting at another road user just makes things worse.
Take a deep breath and stay calm!

AVOID EYE CONTACT

Some drivers just find being intimidating fun.
Some will try and grab your attention to make their fun even more interesting.
By ignoring them and avoiding eye contact you will not be engaging with them for their games to continue.
By making eye contact you could also be adding fuel to their game.
Even if it's not a game, some driver's just can't help themselves from having a go at other driver's even if it wasn't that drivers fault.

BE POLITE

This may be one of the last things you want to be doing, but to avoid a situation escalating it's probably best just to be polite, even if it wasn't your fault.
If it was your fault just apologise and carry on.
Politeness in driving costs nothing but can make all the difference to how others drive. If you are polite to one driver and they in turn are polite to another drivers and the snowball keeps rolling with politeness then we have a road full of polite drivers. If everyone just moans and groans at everyone the roads will get messy.

FORGIVE OTHER DRIVERS

Very much the same as the be polite section This may be one of the last things you want to be doing, but to avoid a situation escalating it's probably best just to forgive the other driver. We are all capable of making mistakes because we are human. You probably make quite a few yourself and hopefully when it happens, other drivers are forgiving to you.
If it was your fault just apologise and carry on.
It is highly likely that you will ever see that driver again.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

If you say you're as good after very little sleep as you are with loads of sleep then you're probably lying.
Sleep deprivation can affect our attitude, hormones etc.
This in turn can leads to brash decisions being made, a lack of patience, and probably make you in a grumpy mood.
Driving a car is probably not a place to be if your have not had enough sleep.

DON'T ANTAGONISE OTHER DRIVERS

Antagonism is a drivers biggest enemy. Hand gestures, shouting at drivers for their atrocious level of driving, honking the horn, flashing your lights, tailgating someone who's pulled out on you. These and may other antagonistic attitudes will only lead to some form of retaliation.
Just STAY CALM, let what's happened pass by and carry on with your drive, it just isn't worth the potential alternative happening.

DRIVE AROUND OTHERS HOW YOU'D EXPECT THEM TO DRIVE AROUND YOU!

There can't be a better way of driving than this.
If we all drove in a manner that we would like others to drive around us, then the whole world would be a better place.
Although I say that, the level of drive needs to be that of safe and legal. A driver who thinks 5-10mph over the speed limit is ok and everyone should do it is not the meaning behind this heading. Likewise the opposite, for someone who want's to drive 10mph under the speed limit. It may feel great for them and they would love everyone to drive around them in the same manner, but we all know that will antagonise standard drivers.
It is all about the politeness that we are talking about with this heading.

LEAVE EARLIER

One of the biggest causes for driver to become stressed is because they are late to an appointment, meeting, interview, work, picking kids up from school, etc.

But by ensuring your time management is that of other drivers, then it is highly likely that had you planned your time better, you wouldn't be in a stressed state in the first place.
Just five minutes either way on a journey can make all the difference between a safe smooth calm and relaxed drive to that of a panic'd stressed out drive that blames everyone else on the road for your predicament.
The only person who caused the situation was you!

REPROT AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS.

The roads are NO PLACE for aggressive drivers and to this end, if you come across an aggressive driver there should only be one course of action. That is to take as many details as you can of the driver, the vehicle colour and registration, the time of day etc and report that driver to the Police.
What may not have come to anything on the time that their aggression was taken out on you, might just lead to something more sinister on another day with another driver.
