What is Safeguarding.

Safeguarding is the process of protecting people's health, well-being, and human rights from harm, abuse, or neglect, enabling them to live safely and with dignity. It applies to both children and adults and involves a range of measures, including prevention, early intervention, and response, to ensure individuals can access necessary support and protection.
Anyone including the public, family and other professionals can report safeguarding concerns.

Empowerment

Will ensure that you support individual to make their own informed decisions, control their own lives and give consent whenever possible.

Respect that they understand that individual know what is best for themselves.

Prevention

Proactive rather than reactive, to act early to ensure no harm happens.

Be able to provide clear information about abuse so it can be recognised and acted on, and where to seek help.

Proportionality

To be able to ensure that any measures taken are proportionate to the level of risk, ensuring that you are avoiding overly intrusive actions.

Protection

You should be able to provide support or assistance to those who are at most risk of abuse or neglect.
The abuse can cover many areas such as:
Physical, Emotional, Sexual, Domestic, Discriminatory,Financial, neglect or self-neglectful harm.

Ensuring that individuals receive whatever help is necessary to help them report abuse and feel that they can participate in the safeguarding process.

Partnership

To be able to work with communities, professionals, and or organisations to prevent, detect and report any abuse or neglect.

Safeguarding needs to be a shared responsibility, to ensure any vulnerable individual/s are supported.

Accountability

Take responsibility for the safeguarding decisions or actions.

Anyone involved should understand their role.
Organisations should be accountable for their safeguarding actions.

Abuse, harassment or harm.
