Some may be very slightly offset to that of a standard Crossroads, and others may have a little distance between them.
Vehicles seeing this sign should consider their speed on the approach to the junctions as they may be hidden, or the line of sight for those emerging from them may be limited and they are having to peep and creep from the junction before committing fully.
This sign showing that the 1st junction is on the left followed by a junction on the right.
Road signs are always read from the bottom to the top.
The sign would be reversed if the junction on the right came first.
If you see these on roads with higher speeds be especially cautious.
Things to consider:
* Priorities.
* Awareness of approach speeds of vehicles on the major road.
* Caution of vehicles emerging from side roads if driving along the major road.
* Timing when moving off especially when turning left then right.
* Signalling and the timing of them if needing to wait to turn into the 2nd junction.
* Steering and the speed of it, based on how close together the junctions may be.
* Open/closed junctions, are you stopping or can you clearly see into the road you are turning?
* Space may be tight slow slower speeds will be crucial.
* Different to crossroads where one motion might not be capable of being conducted.
* Understanding the dangers of these types of junction should you be towing a vehicle.
Tight staggered junctions need to be dealt with slowly to allow for quick movement of the steering wheel. Carrying too much speed will not allow for this and could cause you to miss the junction totally, or end up entering the new road on the wrong side of it.
It is essential that you FULLY UNDERSTAND the approach speeds of vehicles coming from your right before emerging.
You may find that at the time, you consider it safe to emerge, only to then be held up by oncoming traffic causing you to have to wait before proceeding into the new road. In the meantime the traffic that was to your right why you emerged may have caught you up quickly depending on the speed limit of the road you initially pulled out into. If this was a higher speed road and you misjudged the approach speed of the vehicles, it is possible that one of them may not stop in time.
Always ensure when proceeding that you have may a good judgement call first.
