Formerly called a 3 point turn.
Now referred to as a turn in the road.

The main reason why the name changed was to do with roads being made substantially narrower now than they used to be in the past (in an attempt to slow traffic down) and the manoeuvre requiring move moves to complete it.

Turn in the Road

Generally can be performed in 3 moves, but on more modern narrower roads it may
require 5 or even 7 moves to complete the turn

Routine for turn in the road

The process to carry out this in a safe manner.
1. MSPSGL routine as you want to pull up alongside the left hand kerb.
2. Once there, and having checked that it is safe to move off, creep the car forward whilst placing full lock on to the right as quickly as possible. The quicker the steering and slower the drive of the car the sooner this manoeuvre can be completed.
3. As you pass the central point of the road (The Camber) be prepared to cover the footbrake in case the car starts rolling away towards the kerb.
4. Once you are about 3/4 - 7/8 of the way across the road, begin putting your steering on full lock in the opposite direction, again quickly.
5. Once full lock is on and before you hit the kerb, engage the handbrake, and select reverse gear.
6. Carry out a full observational check to ensure it is safe to carry on with the manoeuvre.
7. If necessary secure the car with the parking brake / auto-hold.
8. If safe, slowly bring the vehicle back up the camber of the road using clutch control to keep the vehicle slow.
9. Constantly checking up and down the road throughout the manoeuvre, as well as understanding where your vehicle is within the road.
10. Be prepared to cover the footbrake again as you pass the top of the camber to ensure the vehicle does not roll away towards the kerb.
11. Once 3/4 - 7/8 of the way across the road begin placing the steering lock back to full lock to the right, this will put your wheels in the position they need to be for the next stage.
12. Once full lock is on and before you hit the kerb, engage the parking brake / auto-hold, and select first gear.
13. Carry out a full observational check to ensure it is safe to carry on with the last stage of the manoeuvre.
14. If safe, move off and drive on down the road.
15. If you have not fully completed the manoeuvre then you may need additional moves. Carry them out in the exact same manner as above for each stage.

AT ANY STAGE OF THIS MANOEUVRE!
If pedestrians, cyclists, or any other vehicle arrive then STOP!
Wait to see what their intentions are, and only when it is safe should you continue on with the next stage.
At no stage should you wave on other traffic or pedestrians.
Let them decide that it is safe for them to proceed.
If you are flashed by another vehicle, ensure what their intentions of the flash are, it may mean
THEY ARE COMING THROUGH, it may not mean for you to proceed.

Be aware of any Camber in the road.

Camber is designed to ensure water does not puddle on the roads surface and runs it away to the kerb and the drains.
Depending on the camber you car can run away with you whilst carrying out the manoeuvre so ensure you use your clutch and footbrake / parking brake accordingly.
